HO, HO, HO
Hellboy by Mike Mignola
The jolliest of images for the happiest of holidays. I love you all.
I drew this bat and made a collage invitation for my birthday party this year. It was a really good time! I got to introduce a bunch of artists to each other and my friends helped me make a ton of great food.
Lindsay Watson is one of my favorite artists in tumblr. She paints whimsical forest creatures. As an aspiring children’s book illustrator, I really appreciate the “magic” that she puts into her art. I think it has a transporting quality, and it’s something that I hope to achieve in my own artwork one day. When I lived in the mountains, I’d often daydream about the mysterious animals that lived in the forest. That is what Lindsay’s paintings remind me of.
Sketchbook page, inspired by the sci-fi horror movie Antiviral. The quote that gets cut off at the bottom says Now you’ll share a death with her. That’s a very powerful bond.
This movie made some interesting social commentary about the way our country treats celebrities. We seem to get more entertainment from, and make more of a profit from celebrities’ misfortunes, failures, personal tragedies and deaths rather than celebrating their achievements. And it’s morbid that we sell stories of these people’s misfortunes in the grocery store, where people go to buy food.
I wonder how it must have felt to perform in this movie, knowing that the more successful you are and the more famous you become, you’re also putting your privacy and your safety at risk.
